What it says in the papers
Going through old newspapers shows that, in some ways, things are not so different in the parish of Killererin today and in other ways, as the poet as the poet says, "all has changed utterly".
It is both interesting and amusing to see the old advertisements and the local events that made the newspapers.  Some families were able to afford to have births, deaths, marriages and ordinations published.  Most of the marriages were within the parish, with very few marrying outside the local area.  However, change is clearly illustrated through eviction notices and it is sad to read of tenant families and sometimes groups of tenants being evicted from their homes by landlords in the 1870s and 1880s.
The notices that are reproduced in this chapter are presented exactly as they appeared in the papers.
