Candles

were made from the “tallow” of cattle and sheep, soap from the same thing.

Whips

Were made from horses skin. They used to bury the skin in the clay and put lime over it. It is left there for a certain length of time. It is taken up then and cut with tongs.

Dyes

Were made from elder trees. They boil the bark of the trees and the juice makes the dye.

Lime

Was made like it is made at the present time.

Baskets

Were made from sally switches. They stick the switches into the ground, and they weave switches in and out between them and there we have the baskets.

Cures

Michael Delaney in Imane-More could cure a head-ache and shellyken by measuring the head around about and then he’d pull a rib from the head.

Other cures –

Toff Donnelan could cure “Claithuin” by putting a glass on the chest.
