Care of Elderly Committee 1997
The above committee was formed in March this year and the current members are as follows: – Chairperson: Bernadette Forde; Secretary: Patrick Stone; Treasurer: Nena Nicholson; P.R.O. Angela Moore; Pake Nicholson, Mary Boyle, Helen Treacy, Mary P. Mullins and Teresa Boyle.
The long-term aim of this organisation is to provide respite care for the senior citizens of our parish on a weekly or monthly basis. Eventually, we aim to provide a comfortable venue for social gatherings where friends can get together for a game of cards, bingo or whatever takes their fancy in a homely atmosphere. However, this is a long-term ambition and we have other things to attend to in the meantime.
After Christmas, we hope to be able to organise monthly gatherings in different venues until we find a home of our own. Of course, we can’t forget the Christmas party for over 55s and our annual summer tour.
On top of all this, we are currently compiling a parish history, including folklore and traditions. Any help you can give us, will be much appreciated e.g. photographs, newspaper cuttings etc. These will be treated with the utmost respect, copied and returned immediately. All monies raised from this book which we reckon, at a conservative estimate will take two years to come to fruition will go towards our respite centre.
As you can see, we have many strings to our bow and all offers of help will be gratefully accepted.
