Mrs. Margaret Forde
Mrs. Margaret Forde whose death took place at Imanemore, Barnaderg on Friday last, was aged 103. A native of Derrynagran, Cloondahamper, she had been living with an elderly relative Mrs. Arthur Collins for a number of years past. Mrs. Forde’s husband died over thirty years ago in his seventies.
The deceased who was a native Irish speaker, received the customary IR£5 gift from the President on attaining her hundredth birthday in 1952. She enjoyed splendid good health all through her long life, and last year was often to be seen knitting outside the house on fine days. Her sight and hearing were excellent, and she was quite active up to a few days before her death. She had a keen memory and a great recollection of old traditions and customs.
Mrs. Forde’s death removes the oldest resident in this area, if not in the county.
Funeral
The remains were taken to Killererin parish church, where Requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of her soul. The funeral took place to Esker Stephen’s cemetery on Saturday. Very Rev. Father P. Curran P.P. Killererin recited the last prayers at the graveside, and there was a large attendance of parishioners.
