Christmas '97 in Killererin
Stories from young and old
Bernadette Forde
Care of the Elderly
The idea to publish a magazine was first mentioned at a meeting of the Care of the Elderly committee in November, 1997. It was mentioned as a fundraising initiative for the committee and was to be a once off commitment.
Publication
It culminated in the publication of a booklet of A5 proportions and 20 pages of content. Articles and stories were invited from young and old alike and so, at Christmas time it went on sale for just €2 and to our delight was well supported within the community.
Christmas theme
As it was produced at Christmas time, most of the stories and poems have a Christmas theme. The front cover was created by Cahergal N.S. pupil Kate Forde and we published it ourselves. All funds raised went towards providing services to the elderly in our parish. We later changed our name at their request to Young at Heart.
Inside front cover was as follows:
Pair up these words on the left with their partners from the right. It’s not as hard as it looks.
