Gaelic speaker and folklore exponent
The death took place at Creevaghbawn of Mr. Thomas Hynes, one of the best Gaelic speakers and folklore exponents of his day. He is much regretted, as he was most helpful in Gaelic revival efforts and semi-historical folklore of many of the districts around and his accounts were most reliable.
Chief mourners
There was Solemn Requiem Mass and the chief mourners were: Mrs. Ellen Hynes (Widow); John Hynes, (son); Mrs. Hynes (daughter-in-law); Mrs. Higgins, Tuam; Mrs. Collins, Levally; Mrs. McHugh, Glann; Mrs. A. Quinn, Mrs. O’Nell, Mrs. Costello and family U.S.A. (daughters); Jack Higgins, Galway Road, Tuam; Patrick McHugh, Glann (sons-in-law); The Treacy family, Abbeyknockmoy (relatives).
(According to our source, Mrs. Thomas Hynes was the grandfather of Michael, Kevin, Ned and Sean Hynes).
