Christy Meehan, Cahergal

Christy worked as a carpenter and coach builder. Originally from Roscommon, he came to Tuam to work for a coach builder named Creighton. They built coaches, made traps and sidecars. He was an expert in decorating, painting the coaches etc. He also made household furniture and cart wheels.

Family

He was married to Mary Coen from Clogherboy. They inherited a house from a relative of the Coens in Cahergal and came to live there c.1920s. They had 5 children, 3 girls and 2 boys. Their son John was an all-Ireland cross-country runner.
