Saying the decades of the Rosary
The family rosary was a great tradition in the past. All the family took part, each in turn saying one decade. The grandfather would say a decade and someone he would forget how many Hail Mary’s he had said and went on past No 10. Then all the children would start to giggle. I remember one of our children had no rosary beads, so he took a piece of twine out of his pocket and proceeded to make his own beads in the form of knots for each stone until he finally had made a full Rosary beads. I thought it was great.
What to give up for Lent
When Lent came the teachers asked all the pupils what they were doing for Lent. Most of them said “I am giving up sweets” but my boy Tommy said he was going to Mass every day, and he would receive Holy Communion every day for the duration of Lent. The teacher said he has the makings of a young Priest and he won the school award of a new rosary beads, in a lovely box. But unfortunately he never made it to the Priesthood.
