Historical facts on grotto in Barnaderg

Grotto is blessed

The shrine in honour of Our Lady was erected in 1968 with the voluntary labour of the people of the parish and solemnly blessed by His Grace Most Rev. Joseph Walshe on 8th Dec. 1968 at 4pm.

Mass was celebrated by Rev. Patrick Jennings who was P.P. at the time and was a attended by a very large congregation of locals and people from the surrounding parishes. Mr. Hanly, architect, was present with his wife, Joan from Dalkey, Dublin as were Fr. J.O’Brien, Superior Moyne Park. Fr. Kilgannon C.C. and Fr. P. O’Connor, St. Jarlath’s College Tuam. His Grace addressed the people and thanked them for their voluntary labour.
