Parish Pump, Barnaderg

The pump known as the parish pump is located in the village with The Red Gap on its left and a mortuary on its right. The parish pump was the only source of water in the village at one time and local folklore has it that a woman who lived across from the pump used to bring her washing to the pump and do her weekly wash.

Painted a bright red, you can’t miss it. It was restored some years ago by a local (Fás) community employment scheme, who created a stone surround and steps up to it. It is a feature in our village that is much cherished by the local community.
