St. Patrick's Day in Killererin

Bernadette Forde

Killererin Heritage Society wishes all visitors to our website a very happy St. Patrick’s Day this weekend.

St. Patrick’s Day has been a day of celebration for all the family in our parish for some years now.  The idea to hold St. Patrick’s Day parades was the brainchild of John Keane, Barnaderg.  He told me he got the idea to hold a St. Patrick’s Day parade in the village of Barnaderg when he saw the local scout troop parading from the village to Mass on St. Patrick’s Day.

With the help of a small committee, the idea grew and the parades have become a very successful and most enjoyable community event.  The committee are  to be commended for their tireless efforts over the years.  The parades are followed by tea and refreshments in the community centre which is a great get together for the whole community.

The following are photos of our parade in 2014
