One family from my village got parcels from the U.S. This Yank came home with a great big One Dollar accent. She brought clothes, dried fruit, cigarettes, cake-mix and other goodies.
Once, she saw her mother take tea from a canister over the fireplace. She recognised it and enquired of her mother what she did with the contents.. Her mother replied “I put it in the Christmas cake with the rest of the stuff you sent. Why do you ask?” “Well” says Mary, “that was Uncle John’s ashes.
He died last August and he was cremated. He wanted to be buried in Creevaghbawn”. He came close!
