Shantallow – Our Famine Story
The GREAT FAMINE affected all corners of Ireland, not least KILLERERIN where whole villages were decimated. One of those villages, Shantallow, is a case in point and is indicative of several other villages in the parish.
Census 1841- 1851
1841 – 15 houses and 89 people
1861 – 1 house and 8 people
From 1881 until 1991 there were no inhabitants
