Treacle cake is a delicious recipe.  It is easy to make.  My Nanny’s mother used to make it and then taught my nanny how to make it.  My Nanny then taught me how to make it   Enjoy this beautiful scrumptious recipe.

Ingredients

  1. 8 oz self-raising flour
  2. 2 oz butter
  3. 1 oz caster sugar
  4. 2 teaspoons of black treacle
  5. ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  6. pinch of salt
  7. milk to mix (approximately ¼ pint)

 

How to make the recipe

  1. Set oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit or Gas Mark 7
  2. Grease a baking sheet
  3. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the butter
  4. Mix in the sugar and cinnamon
  5. Add the treacle and sufficient milk to make a soft dough
  6. Turn on to a floured surface and knead gently
  7. The dough should be fairly moist and elastic
  8. Roll out to about ½ inch thick
  9. Cut into rounds with a 2 ½ inch pastry cutter
  10. Place on the baking sheet, brush with a little milk and bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden in colour
  11. Cool on a wire rack
  12. Serve split in half and buttered
